Cuisine Mexican
- 1 lime wedge for the rim
- 2 tsp Tajín or other chili-lime seasoning for the rim
- 1 tsp granulated sugar optional, mixed into the rim seasoning
- 4 oz mango nectar 1/2 cup, chilled
- 1 oz fresh lime juice 2 tbsp, about 1 lime
- 1 tsp simple syrup or agave optional, to taste
- 4 oz sparkling water 1/2 cup, chilled
- ice to fill a 12 oz glass
- lime wheel or mango spear for garnish
Mix the Tajín and sugar (if using) on a small plate.
Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of a 12 oz glass, then hold the glass at an angle and roll the outer edge through the seasoning. Tap off the extra.
Fill the glass with ice. Pour the mango nectar, lime juice and simple syrup (if using) into the middle of the glass and stir.
Top with sparkling water, give it one gentle stir, and garnish with a lime wheel or mango spear. Sip right away.
How to order it at a bar: Ask for "mango juice and fresh lime topped with soda water, over ice, with a Tajín rim, no alcohol." Bars with a margarita setup can usually do it.
Allergen and label notes: no dairy, nuts or gluten in the ingredients as written, but always check labels. Some chili-lime seasonings and chamoy sauces contain sulfites or artificial dyes. If you go the candy rim route, some candies and sprinkles contain gelatin (not vegetarian), artificial dyes, milk or soy. Don't give honey (sometimes used for candy rims) to babies under 1 year old.
Make it ahead: rim the glasses and park them in the freezer up to an hour before guests arrive.
