How to Order a Dirty Soda

  1. Pick a base: Dr Pepper, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, root beer, or Mountain Dew.
  2. Add 1–2 syrups: coconut, vanilla, peach, raspberry, or a seasonal one.
  3. Add citrus: fresh lime is the classic.
  4. Make it creamy: coconut cream or half-and-half.

Say it like this: “Large Dr Pepper with coconut syrup, fresh lime, and coconut cream, please.” At a bar, ask for the soda over ice with a splash of cream and a lime; many bars have vanilla or coconut syrup for coffee drinks.

Build Your Own Dirty Soda

The ratio for a 20–24 oz cup: 12 oz soda + 1–2 Tbsp syrup + 1 Tbsp lime + 1–2 Tbsp cream, over pebble ice. Syrup and lime go in first, soda next, cream floats on top.

Dirty Soda FAQ

What is a dirty soda?

A soda “dirtied” with flavored syrup, cream, and fresh citrus — a non-alcoholic drink popularized by Utah soda shops.

Why is it called dirty?

The cream clouds the clear soda, and “dirty” is a playful nod to bar language — but there’s no alcohol in it.

Can I make it sugar-free or caffeine-free?

Yes: use diet soda and sugar-free syrups, or a caffeine-free base like Sprite or root beer.
